Title: Goldfish

Sample: It is two days before Christmas. The child’s name is Nora, and she is eight years old. The package of goldfish crackers is an early gift from her grandfather and she cried when she opened it.

Title: Moon Girl

Sample: The first night I met her she was drowning. She went by the name of Ophelia, and she was drowning in the harsh glow of a spotlight as she crooned heartbroken lyrics into a dying microphone.

Title: Little Red
Rating: PG-13
Sample: She would eat it straight from the basket, her mashing yellow teeth tearing through the skin, dribble running down her chin, her eyes closed in ecstasy.

Title: Making a Werewolf
Rating: PG-13
Sample: The scents of that night are vivid. I recall feeling immensely sick from the smells that rose around the two circles drawn into the dirt. Around his waist, my father wore a belt of wolf skin.

Title: Phoenix
Rating: G
Sample: There is flight in this painting. The stranger is brought back with a controlled sweep of bisque and coffee and a dab of russet.

Title: Deception

Sample: The woman on the side of the road was not at all pleasant to look at. She had very little hair left atop her shiny crone and her teeth appeared to be made of wood – wormy and rotted.

Title: Fading Traditions

Sample: He hates the city with its beautiful bright lights and loud noises that keep him awake at night. He stands up, stretching sore muscles and kinked joints.

Sample: Reaching the door, the frightened little Mexican boy rang the bell. It was answered by a short, skinny woman with frizzy, brown hair; the witch.
