12 Things You Should Know About Dating a Yoga Teacher |

Dating a yoga teacher is a great way to make some serious progress at your yoga practice without being judged. A yoga teacher is usually flexible, as they have to be, but they can often be found in the midst of pose, breathing deeply, and practicing their own form of yoga. Because yoga teachers are often in touch with both their internal and external energy, they are often able to feel when someone else is giving them a hard time.

Dating a yoga teacher. So you wanna date a yoga teacher. You’re in luck, because we’ve been there before. We’ve been there and it’s a good thing–it’s fun, it’s exciting to forge a unique relationship with someone who has such a unique job. It’s also beneficial to them–they’ll be a lot more likely to get the benefit of your knowledge because they’re going to push their boundaries and explore a variety of new poses. First of all, according to Dudethrill.com — you will need to choose a good dating platform for finding your yoga-date in the first place.

When you meet a perfect match, you’d better know what you’re doing. Yoga teachers are generally well-educated and self-aware. They know more about yoga than just about anyone you’ll meet.

Depending on how familiar you are with yoga, the idea of going on a date with a yoga teacher may scare or intrigue you. Thanks to social media, there are so many fun misconceptions about what it means to be a yoga teacher.

While some of us meditate every day, drink lots of green smoothies and celebrate every full moon, meeting a yoga teacher doesn’t have to mean turning your apartment into an ashram.

But we are a different race with different conceptions of normalcy than generally accepted. So here are some things you need to know before you enter into a relationship with a yoga teacher.

1. Your nose will be very happy

Yogis strive to create an atmosphere of peace, so our homes are filled with essential oils, palo santo, candles and incense.

2. Your stomach will be very happy

A big part of the yoga lifestyle is having a healthy body and mind. It’s rare to find a yoga teacher who only has junk food in their kitchen. Instead, you see pots full of cereal, refrigerators full of vegetables, and a pitcher of kumbuchi boiling in a bathtub.

You may not be jumping for joy at first, but once your yogi starts cooking for you, you’ll be amazed at how delicious kale can be.

3. You will learn new words

If you feel like yogis speak a different language, it’s because they do. In addition to the Sanskrit words for yoga postures, yogis have a unique way of communicating with each other. You will learn about the chakras, Reiki, Ayurveda and Ujjayi breathing.

4. You learn to enter the house without making noise

If you’re used to storming into the house and yelling Honey, I’m home, you may need to change your ways. Chances are your yogi is meditating, floating in savasana, or thinking deeply when home alone.

5. You’ll have to move on

If you are not ready to bare your soul, you will not be able to connect with a yogi. Like the yogis, we have been working on these issues from the beginning and we will probably want to share these revelations with our partners. So if you can’t stand emotions or tears, this relationship is not for you.

6. We are not zen all the time.

While our job is to help people find their zen, we are not robots. There are days when we get angry in traffic or argue with a colleague. Don’t expect life to be all rainbows and butterflies.

7. We can be flexible, but we know what we want.

Taking a yoga teacher training course is a life-changing experience. So many personal discoveries take place here that change our perception of life and relationships.

While the yogi may be flexible in his practice and in his social relationships, he is likely to have strong ideas about what a partner should be, and he will not compromise.

8. Nightlife will be a little different

Don’t get me wrong, I know many yogis who still like to go out and have fun. But I also know many yogis who like to go to bed at 9 or 10 after a good cup of ginger tea. For someone in the latter category, it can be difficult to go out with someone who likes to go out until the wee hours of the morning.

9. Giving a gift can be even more intimidating

It’s hard to find the perfect Christmas or birthday gift for a new partner. With the yogis, the plot thickens. We probably don’t want jewelry (unless it’s made from natural materials) or chocolate (unless it’s organic dark chocolate). We would love to buy a new singing bowl, an expensive essential oil for chakra blending, succulents or a membership to a yoga studio.

10. We don’t judge you, but….

…A healthy lifestyle is important to us, which is why we shudder at the use of plastic bags for shopping, at the consumption of soft drinks or at the pollution of the environment.

11. Get used to the expression What are you doing?

Many of us start the day with oil pulling, tongue brushing and dry brushing. We sing, stand on our heads, display crystals in the moonlight. We do a lot of things that you might not be used to from us, but we have very good reasons for that, just ask!

12. We’re great.

It’s totally subjective, but I’ve met VERY few yoga teachers that I didn’t like. It is a group of people who are completely dedicated to being happy and making others happy. They are in touch with their feelings, emotions and needs. They want to make the world a better place and give so much love.

If you’re ready for a meaningful, whimsical and healthy relationship, you could be the perfect partner for a yoga teacher!
